- In 2023, 121,998 inpatient discharges and deaths were related to external causes of morbidity and mortality, accounting for 5.4% of all inpatient discharges and deaths.

- In 2023, 2,377 deaths were related to external causes of mortality and morbidity, accounting for 4.2% of all registered deaths. The crude death rates for male and female were 45.3 and 20.0 per 100,000 population of respective sex.

- The age-standardised death rate for both sexes due to external causes of morbidity and mortality decreased generally in recent years.

- About 50% of the causes of death were due to intentional self-harm. In 2023, the three leading causes of death due to external causes of morbidity and mortality were intentional self-harm, falls and accidental poisoning.
