Age Structure

  • Hong Kong population had been ageing for the past decades. The proportion of the population aged under 15 decreased gradually due to the sustained reduction in fertility rate in recent years. On the contrary, the proportions of persons aged 35-64 and 65 & above increased from 28.2% and 6.2% in 1979 to 47.2% and 21.8% in 2023 respectively, because of the influx of young entrants from the Mainland during the 1960-70's.
