Coronary Heart Diseases

  • Heart diseases have been the fourth leading cause of death in Hong Kong since 1960s. "Heart Diseases" refers to a broad spectrum of diseases such as coronary heart disease, hypertensive heart disease, chronic rheumatic heart disease and congenital heart disease, and coronary heart disease is the major cause of death among them. In 2023, about 11.3 persons on average died from coronary heart diseases per day. Moreover, more males died from coronary heart diseases (male to female ratio = 1.9:1).

Classification of diseases and causes of death is based on the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD) 10th Revision from 2001 onwards. Figures from 2001 onwards may not be comparable with figures for previous years which were compiled based on the ICD 9th Revision.

Acute Myocardial Infarction corresponds to codes 410 in ICD-9 and I21-I22 in ICD-10.
